High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! Podiatry is a branch of health care devoted to the study, diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the foot, ankle and lower leg. A podiatrist treats the foot of a patient at a homeless shelter in Homestead, Florida. Within the United Kingdom, the title "podiatrist" is protected by law, meaning that it can only be used by those registered with the Health Professions Council. Inside the profession, the old title "chiropodist" is still sometimes used. Chiropody is considered the routine processes of palliative foot care, whilst podiatry is indicative of the higher training and skills, including foot and ankle surgery. The term "podiatric surgeon" is sometimes used for UK podiatrists who have completed a surgical residency (commonly called a "pupillage") and who are Fellows of the College of Podiatrists of The Society of Chiropodists & Podiatrists (designated letters, FCPods), although the terminology is controversial.
